The Gothic cathedral was built in the 13th century and has since remained one of the most significant architectural monuments in the country.

In the late 18th century, the cathedral housed the miraculous image of the city’s patron saint, the Holy Virgin of Luxembourg, Comforter of the Afflicted. In addition, the cathedral features numerous statues and frescoes and is the burial place of the King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg, John the Blind, as well as the crypt-mausoleum of the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg.
