The National Basilica of the Sacred Heart, commonly known as the Koekelberg Basilica, is a stunning Roman Catholic church in Brussels. Inspired by Paris’s Sacré-Cœur, it stands proudly atop Koekelberg hill and is one of the largest churches in the world, ranking fifth after iconic churches in Rome, London, Florence, and the Ivory Coast.

King Leopold II laid the first stone in 1905, but construction paused during the World Wars, completing only in 1970. This Art Deco masterpiece features a striking green copper dome that rises 89 meters, offering breathtaking views of Brussels and beyond. At a height of 52.8 meters, an external gallery just below the dome provides a stunning panorama of Brussels and Brabant. On clear days, you can see all the way to Mechelen Cathedral and the Ronquières Inclined Plane.
