This small town is nestled between Brussels and Antwerp and has a rich history. Mechelen was founded in a marshy area, so today it has a complex system of canals, which gives it a special charm.

One of the main sightseeing highlights of Mechelen is the Cathedral of St. Rumold, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It houses the Icon of Our Lady of Miracles. The cathedral’s carillon has 49 bells and is considered one of the best in Europe. The Belgium’s only school of ringers is located here.

Another iconic landmark of the city is the Brussels Gate. It is a preserved part of the city wall that protected Mechelen in the Middle Ages.
