Alden Biesen Castle, Belgium
Alden Biesen Castle is one of the largest and most impressive castle complexes in Belgium. Located near the town of Bilzen, in the village of Rijkhoven, it stands as a remarkable blend of grandeur, history, and timeless elegance.
Most of the estate’s buildings were constructed between the 16th and 18th centuries, serving for centuries as a major residence of the Teutonic Order. In 1971, a devastating fire struck the site, but the castle was later fully restored, bringing its rich past back to life.
Today, Alden Biesen beautifully merges heritage with contemporary culture. The estate hosts festivals, exhibitions, and cultural events throughout the year. Visitors can stroll through the formal French gardens, explore the church and the historic orangery, or simply enjoy the peaceful charm of the estate.
Surrounded by a wide moat, the entire complex has a unique, almost storybook atmosphere—making it one of the most enchanting places to visit in Flanders.
