Aalst, Belgium
This city rich in history is nestled in northern Belgium, halfway between Brussels and Ghent. The heart of Aalst is its historic part, where houses with Flemish Renaissance facades adorn the narrow streets.

The city is famous for its cultural events, and especially for its traditional annual three-day street carnival. It usually falls in February or March.

Aalst is also rich in striking examples of Gothic architecture: the town hall, St. Martin’s Church, the cental railway station and other buildings. At the town hall there is a special object – the bell tower, or belfry, which today has 52 bells and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
